How did you attract your audience?
I think the main appeal and defining factor in terms of audience is the films genre. A films genre pretty much defines its audience. This meant that to appeal to specific audiences our film had follow specific conventions.
We tried to identify what film genres were popular between males from mid teen to young adult. The ones that stood out to us were comedy, action, thriller and horror. More rom-com, drama and lighthearted film seemed more common with family audiences with young children, parents and older people and chic flicks and romantic film genres were more common for female audiences. We also identified themes and styles of film that appealed to our audience.
In our film we wanted action, plot twists and areas of ambiguity that would link together and reveal elements of the plot. We also aimed to make out film realistic and possibly relatable to attract our audience. We wanted our audience to engage with the main protagonist when seeing the dream through his eyes and feel his pain and helplessness as he watched events unfold infront of him. Especially when Kim is seen in a wheelchair screaming before blowing up. We wanted out audience to be shocked and feel Marshals attachment and care for her. To build up to this, we tried to conform to similar style and pace as other films of the same genre. We had many black fades to slowly transition between cuts and not reveal too much information. This makes the audience question what is happening building enigma and draws them in to watch more and understand the whole story.
